How to avoid a DISASTER during Facebook LIVE?

Facebook Live you've been planning for weeks will start in just a few minutes. You have a program prepared, all the information and notes are ready, and you even practised ways to engage your audience. Now all you need to do is connect online and… suddenly the internet stopped working, the children ran into the room, the cat knocked a coffee off straight onto the PC… What do you do then?

The best way to avoid this tragedy of our times is to create your own technical checklist. Let us follow the example of aeroplane pilots — such a checklist can save our ego. Here are my solutions:

8 things to check before you go Live

Check the device is working — restart your PC/smartphone and disable any possible applications that may affect the recording. Also, check any background programs.

Test the Sound — Test the microphone and speakers (headphones) and see if they are working properly.

Check the camera — position it so that it is under the correct angle and gets the best frame.

Check the background — What you have behind you may not seem important, but it may distract your audience, so check for any distracting objects behind you.

Check what’s connected to the internet — disconnect any devices that might slow down the internet while transmitting live. You don’t want your console to download a system update at the time, do you?

Check your internet speed connection — check your upload speed. It should show a minimum of 4Mbps. If it is lower, consider using 4G or moving to another place (with better internet).

Do the test run — do a short Live just for yourself, then check if the audio and video are okay.

Get rid of distractions — mute your phone, smartwatch, alarm clock, etc. If you will be transmitting from your home office, let everyone in your household know that you will be busy and that they must not disturb you.

Plan ahead — if you have children, plan for when they’re at school or ask your partner to take care of them while you’re Live. Remember to tell people you live with that you’ll be busy and to keep quiet.

Check your ambience – if you live near a busy road, remember to close the windows or find another place.

Facebook Live can be stressful!

Don’t be discouraged, though – just prepare yourself for the Live as much as you can so that you feel confident and sure of yourself. Do you want to know what to do when you forget what to say during Live? Read What Was I Saying? – How Not to Fall Apart When You Forgot What to Say During a LIVE

Remember you always have two options when you fail: leave the country, change your name, and start a new life or simply learn techniques to not foll apart and get yourself together quickly! I always opt for the second one because some fails are unavoidable, especially when you’re just starting out!
